For what it’s worth, though, the game wardens aren’t the folks to blame for this. Their job is enforcing the law, not making it. The Department of Fish and Game has consistently recommended against the lead ban, and most of them will be pretty blunt about their feelings about it off the record. In fact, if you speak one-to-one with most CA wardens, you’ll find that they don’t care much for the mountain lion ban either.

The problem, as you DO correctly point out, is the power of the “environmentalist” fringe (many of whom have no idea about real environmental science)in this state combined with the “Initiative” policies, where anything can be put on the ballot for a popular vote. It’s just about to drive me out of this state… and Texas is looking mighty good.

“Kal-if-ornia”. Lived there for over 35 years and watched the liberals and tree-huggers slice away gun/hunter/sportsman rights piece by piece. Finally had enough and moved to Texas in 2004, where I immediately recovered all gun/hunting/sportsman rights I had lost in CA. over the previous three decades. As for the “No Lead Zone” hunting in CA., I wonder where all those Game Wardens are going to eventually work when they finally screw the last sportsman in CA?

I’m with Holly, as long as you don’t have a shotgun you’re alright. If you’re hunting with a .30-06, you just can’t have lead .30-06 rounds in the truck. Should be ok!

If he’s a dick, yes. And if you’re at Tejon, you’ve gotta be worried about those folks, not the warden.

But, if no one in your party has a shotgun, I think (yeah, I’m not checking regs on any of this – just going from memory) you’d be ok with lead shotshells in the car.
