Adam Henry Award – Dusted Off for a Special Occasion
Ya’ll remember the Adam Henry* Award? Maybe not, because I haven’t used it in a while… not that there haven’t been a few deserving candidates, but I just haven’t been particularly moved to hand it out of late.
But in light of the relatively recent incident in which at least three true Adam-Henrys video-taped themselves shooting coots, ducks, and other birds out of season, well, I had to dust it off.
What? You haven’t heard? Well, there’s a big part of me that’s glad to know that this didn’t make quite the media splash one might have expected. It looks bad, and a lot of folks still can’t seem to differentiate poacher from hunter. I won’t embed it here, because it’s so bloody offensive I get ill every time I see it. This is the absolute worst behavior, and it’s the kind of thing an awful lot of anti-hunters would like to associate with all hunters. But if you want to see it for yourself, you can go to YouTube and see it there.
The original was taken down by the scumwads who originally made and posted it, but a concerned hunter re-posted a copy, in hopes that other hunters and/or law enforcement would be able to use the clip to catch these idiots. In fairly short order, the hunting community rose up to condemn these folks. Loud among those voices were those of my blogging friends, Othmar Vohringer and Albert Rasch.
In fact, it was on Othmar’s site where I saw the news that the efforts of the community and Saskatchewan officials had paid off. Here’s part of what he had to say:
Officials with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment confirm that three individuals have been arrested early Saturday morning in connection with the duck killing video posted on YouTube. I reported in my column on August 03 about the outrage of the Canadian hunting community and the hunter communities combined national effort to capture the poachers.
It took less than a week to catch these criminals. This must be one of the shortest times in apprehending poachers and it’s in large part due to the Canadian hunters. Ones again hunters have shown that they are the true stewards of wildlife and habitat. Gary Harrison, head of special investigations for Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Environment, said “It was more of a response than any other single event since the Turn In Poacher’s (TIP) line began, which I believe was in 1989. Not only did we get calls here (in Saskatchewan), but Alberta Turn In Poacher’s line as well received numerous calls.”
You can read the rest on his site, but you get the idea.
Anyway, all that is a long ways to go to say, “congratulations to the three new winners of the Hog Blog Adam Henry Award!”
They deserve it!

Thanks for the link “Hogmn”. The Adam Henry Award seems very fitting for this type of people. I am still somewhat stunned how the Canadian hunting community banded together on this case and got results. In a way it is prove to me what hunters can archive when they stick together. I hope that in future hunters can stand up like that in defense of our heritage and rights too.

They definitely deserve the award, and I hope they earn even more than that come their court date.

Thanks for the update Phillip. After watching the video I was left absolutely disgusted. It’s great that the hunting community came together to catch these scum bags.
