    Something very, very cool happened…

How’s that for an enigmatic post title?  But really, something very cool did happen yesterday, and I thought it was worth sharing with you all…  the Hog Blog now has its very own theme song, courtesy of T. Michael Riddle.

For those of you who don’t know, in addition to his work with Native Hunt, Riddle enjoyed a career in the music industry, working most notably as guitarist for the heavy metal band, Valhalla.  He also formed and fronted the eponymous Riddle, as well as some other gigs.  I’ve listened to some of his older stuff, and while I was honestly never a huge fan of the “hair metal” bands of that era, I could tell there was more to these guys than over-produced melodies, clap-tracks, and canned lead guitars.  There’s talent in that band, and behind the costumes there was a real rock-and-roll sensibility.  Makes me wish I’d seen them back in the day.

Michael took a brief respite from show business, but lately he’s been feeling the pull to get back into it.  I don’t know how much I’m free to reveal right now, but it’ll suffice to say that ya’ll might want to keep your eyes (and ears) open in the near future.  I can say that I’ve had the opportunity to hear him play out at the ranch, and he’s definitely still got his “licks”.

So all of that’s a long way to get to the point…

Michael called me earlier this weekend and asked if I had time to run out to his home offices to “talk about some things.”  We’re working together on a couple of projects, including some things for his Native Hunt website, so the request didn’t seem unusual.  Besides, I enjoy any opportunity to hang out with him, so I hopped on the motorcycle yesterday afternoon and made the run down to his place.

I arrived, and he ushered me into the garage/shop area where I saw that he’d set up rudimentary sound studio.  “I’ve got something I wanted you to listen to,” he told me, and flipped a switch.

I was immediately drowned in a wall of driving drums and a cool guitar run that got my heart beating and my foot jumping right from the get-go.    Then I caught the chorus… was he singing “Hog Blog”?  I must be hearing this wrong… but wait, here it comes again…  Holy crap, that’s me!

We listened to the rest of the tune, and then Michael popped out the CD and offered me the Hog Blog Theme Song!  He explained that the idea was to form a background track, like for a video or TV show, and I have to say he nailed it.  It’s perfect!

I was at once thrilled and flabbergasted.  I can honestly say that I’ve never felt so honored… not to mention that all I could think about was coming up with a video to properly showcase the new tune!  That’s in the works now, but since I’m starting back to the workaday world this morning, it may take me a little while to get it all together.  Please be patient.

So a huge, monstrous THANK YOU to T. Michael Riddle!  You rock!

Hit “upload,” my friend – I can’t wait to hear it! Last time we were at Michael’s ranch, I was listening to his recent work and I really liked it. Couldn’t get it out of my head for days.

I sometimes wonder if people who don’t know Michael think we’re exaggerating when we talk about Michael’s incredible generosity. If they do, this should set them straight right now – he really is that generous. And you can’t even use cliches like “he’d give you the shirt off his own back,” because it’s more like “he’d give you your own theme song.” Dang!
