Something different

So, this was kind of spurred by the last post’s title, and the fact that it’s left at least one reader, Native, scratching his head and delving into the memory banks…

The slogan was, “I’d rather fight than switch.”

The question is, which cigarette company did that campaign?

No cheating and going to Google.  Let’s see who can remember.  You don’t have to be that old, although the campaign has long since terminated.

I don’t have any cool HogBlog swag to give the winner, but you will have bragging rights and the admiration of the entire blogosphere if you can answer correctly.

Have at it!

Wow this is going back into my memories for sure. I recall the ads in magazines and I worked for a guy in the 70’s that smoked them. It was something like Tagatin or teratin something like that. I could google it but I’ll wait and see. White package with green stripes I believe. I use to have to run to the store and get them for him once in a while. Back when they didn’t care if kids bought cigarettes. :D

I just remembered that the slogan: Silly Millimeter Longer, 101 was Benson and Hedges. Where the bent end of the cigarette would prove that it really was longer than it’s competitors.

Dang you Phillip! Now all day long I will be trying to think of: I’d Rather Fight Than Switch!
and which cigarette company campaigned that slogan.

Charcoal-filter Tareytons (and Tareyton 100s), Phillip. And you thought I was just an expert at tracking outdoor news. So what do I win?. JR

  4. Phillip Loughlin Says:

Ding ding ding…. We have a WINNER!

That was over much too quickly.

JR, congratulations. Don Pardo, tell him what he’s won.

Well, JR, get your bug dope and camo ready, because you’ve won… well, not much.

Just congratulations and the grins and smirks of everyone who knows just how old you’d have to be to remember these ads. But wait, that’s not all… you’re also entitled to a handshake at the SHOT Show this winter, or before if we should cross paths sooner. And should you find yourself in CA with time to kill and the inclination to do so(and the timing is right and all the other factors align), a free hog hunt!

J.R. sounds pretty sure, and since I have no clue - I’ll say “yeah, what he said.”

I confess to actually smoking the godawful things for awhile during my college years. But then, we’d smoke just about anything in those days!! Thanks for the offer Phillip, I’ll take you up on the offer sometime.

Us Tareyton Smokers Would Rather Fight Than Switch!
    Now I remember……

  8. Phillip Loughlin Says:

JR, I had a feeling your voice was one of experience. I know what you mean about “those days”, though.

    Thanks to all for playing!

  10. Phillip Loughlin Says:

    Hi Kathy,
