A Special Feature – Walking from Phoenix to Dallas
One of the fellas over at Jesse’s Hunting and Outdoors recently told us about his buddy, an ex-marine, who is planning to hike from Phoenix to Dallas over the next couple of months. Joining him on the hike will be his son, and their chocolate lab. Why are they doing this? Why not?
The adventure will be chronicled in a blog at the JHO site. I’ve added a link under A Special Feature in my blogroll.
So far, they’ve made a little distance the first couple of days, and are already running into adventures. I’ll be watching and cheering for them. Hope some of you will “tune in” and check it out as well. Should be interesting. Who does this kind of thing?

That sounds like quite an adventure – I’m glad they’ll be blogging along the way.
Believe it or not, one of my good friends from college (yes, he graduated from college), decided to walk from Oregon south. He doesn’t really have a destination. So far, he made in through Mexico and into South America. Every so often, he stops in a town and lives with some locals for a few weeks. He even purchased a donkey he named “Whothey” to help him on his journeys. Unfortunately, he’s not blogging…

Heya Bryan,
They’re actually having their buddy blog for them, since they’re both decidedly low-tech guys. They’ll check in daily with cell phones and send phone-pix. He’ll do the blogging. Kinda cool, though.
I always wanted to do something like the Appalachian trail, or horseback across the country… but it takes real cajones to just make the break and do it. Kudos to your college buddy for making the dream real. Kinda straight out of Kerouac or something.

I bet this will be an interesting adventure. I’ve read a few books by people who walked the Appalachian Trail or just walked across America. It’s really kind of a fascinating idea, and you certainly have a different experience than you would in a car.

Well.. here’s an unfortunate update. Yesterday Ronnie (the son) had a minor heart attack and had to be hospitalized. Fortunately, he’ll be fine, but it looks like a quick end to the endeavour.

Oh no…I’m very sorry to hear about your friend.
My thoughts and prayers…and hopes that he will be okay.
